Starting A Business
The Dream

Many of us who work for a boss or simply look after the children at home, dream of the opportunity to manage their own business.

The reasons have been well documented in relation to the freedom and opportunities that small businesses can offer.

The dream is to plant an acorn and watch it grow into a beautiful Oak Tree.

Creating revenue from an idea

The first step in any small business is to have an idea. Not all ideas are good as statistics tell us 30%-40% of new businesses fail in the first 2 years.

The first piece of advice is to do a SWOT Analysis. (SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Strengths). Businesses that succeed generally have a competitive advantage over their competitors either in price, service or range of product. A SWOT analysis forces you to think how you rate with your competitors. Their is more chance of success for businesses that are highly specialized in niche market and not trying to service every single person.

Will your business idea drive customers to you?
Do you have a competitive advantage?
Is your idea unique in any way?
